My name is Isabella Swan, though I go strictly by Bella. I am originally from Phoenix, Arizona, where I grew up with my mother, Renee, while my father, Charlie, remained in Forks, Washington after Mom left him in the early stages of their marriage. I have always loved the heat, the sun, the humidity, and everything else that Phoenix has to offer. One day, however, I decided to give all of that up so that Renee could be with her new husband, Phil Dwyer. That's when my life started to get interesting.

Personally, I have never been anything remarkable. Noticeable, perhaps, but not remarkable. I'm too plain, too ordinary - in appearance, anyway. Then, on the inside, I was born defective; too mature for my age, too distant from my surroundings. And clumsy. I'm practically disabled in my lack of gracefulness. I know emergency room doctors by name, and no one is ever surprised to see me with some new bandage or bruise.

I am also the luckiest girl in all of the world, though I didn't think so at first. At first I felt trapped in my own personal hell. I hated Forks; it was everything Phoenix was not. Only my extremely stubborn nature kept me there as long as it did. And then there was Edward Cullen.

Edward Cullen and his siblings were newcomers, just like I was, although my roots ran deeper. They were the most interesting people in all of Forks - which wasn't hard to accomplish, I'll admit. Especially Edward. The greek god. The bronze-haired beauty. The dazzling Adonis.

At first he appeared to hate me. Then I knew there was something different about him. Eventually I put the pieces together, and on the same day I discovered his true identity - that of a hundred-year-young vampire - I also realized that I loved him. Life was beautiful after that.

Then came James. That could have ended better, but I survived it, nonetheless. And Edward was mine, all mine. I love him more than anything, and that love only grows as the days pass by. I can't live without him - literally.

At one point he did leave me, although I can't blame him, even if it had been done in malicious intent, which it wasn't. He thought he was protecting me, because suddenly the "enemy" wasn't someone to be slain, but rather his own brother. I didn't handle his leaving well, whatever the intent, especially since I didn't understand the truth. In fact, if it hadn't have been for Jacob Black, I would have collapsed in on myself over time. Therein lies a whole new problem. Not only are Edward and Jacob romantic "rivals", they are also natural-born enemies! Jacob is a Quileute werewolf, the one true enemy of the vampire.

As if my life wasn't complicated enough.

And I'm a little human caught in the middle of what could be a full-blown war.

All I want is to become a vampire and be with Edward Cullen forever.

Thus begins the story of my life.
